The Stigler Health & Wellness Center, Incorporated was opened in
March 2005 as part of a community effort to offer better medical services,
and eventually dental and mental health services, to the rural areas of
Eastern Oklahoma. With the success of the first location in Haskell
County’s City of Stigler, the centers have expanded into Northwestern
adjoining McIntosh County in the City of Eufaula and Northeastern adjoining
Sequoyah County in the City of Sallisaw.
The center operates as a non-profit corporation, utilizing federal government
funding through the Health and Resources Services Administration (HRSA) to
supplement the cost of health care for its un-insured and under-insured
patients that reside in high-poverty areas that have a low provider-to-patient
ratio; as well as serving those with private health insurance, Medicare,
SoonerCare and Medicaid. Billing is based on either current health insurance agreements or
a percentage of household income, according to a sliding-fee scale, for those
that are un-insured.
